  • Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard Get Married
    The Rumor Mill on mybuzzfoto.com

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard made it official on Saturday: The longtime couple, who have a daughter together, tied the knot in a romantic wedding in Italy.

”We are happy to confirm that Maggie and Peter were married on Saturday, May 2,” the actress’s rep said in a statement to PEOPLE.

The celebration took place in a small chapel in Brindisi, according to European news reports. Among the guests were Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon.

This is the second week in a row that Italy has been the home of a celebrity wedding: April 25 Salma Hayek wed French mogul François-Henri Pinault in a star-studded celebration in Venice.

In March, Gyllenhaal celebrated her impending nuptials with a bridal shower attended by friends, including Witherspoon, a source tells PEOPLE.

    Daughter Ramona
Gyllenhaal, 31, and Sarsgaard, 38, are parents to daughter Ramona, 2 ½. The couple announced their pregnancy and engagement exclusively to PEOPLE in 2006 after being together for more than four years.

The pair costarred in 2003’s In God’s Hands, a low-budget feature produced by Steven Soderbergh.

Gyllenhaal made her name in the 2002 indie movie Secretary. She recently starred in the blockbuster The Dark Knight, where she replaced Katie Holmes in the role of Rachel Dawes.

Sarsgaard has starred in films such as Kinsey, Jarhead (with his wife’s brother, Jake) and Shattered Glass for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination in 2004.

  • Katy Perry Buys a Flying Pig Ring for Swine Flu
    The Rumor Mill on mybuzzfoto.com

Only Katy Perry could find just the right bling for a global pandemic.

”Since swine flu is super trendy I wanted to make sure I was in style with my swine flu ring!” the ”I Kissed a Girl” singer writes on her blog. ”I got this one in Miami at Big Drop the other day … a flying piggy.”

And if that’s not silly enough, Perry relates a conversation about the swine flu she had with her cat (yes, her cat), whom she’s named Kitty Purry.

”Kitty Purry was telling me the other night that she remembers when bird flu was in and now pig flu is cool and she wonders when kitty flu is gonna hit,” writes Perry, ”as she would like to be more popular than she currently already is. Fame whore.”

  • Jon Gosselin’s Mystery Woman Breaks Her Silence

    The Gosselin family

The woman who set blogs ablaze last week for stepping out with Jon Gosselin has come forward to say that there’s absolutely nothing romantic going on between her and the married reality star of TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8.

”We’re just friends,” Deanna Hummel, 23, tells PEOPLE exclusively. ”It’s absurd that anyone would think otherwise.”

According to Hummel, she met Gosselin through a mutual pal a couple of months ago. Since then, the two have been hanging out – as part of a group of friends, not as couple. The social outings have included visits to each other’s houses and nights out on the town, but always with others there, and it’s always all innocent, according to Hummel.

”We just talk and socialize, the normal things you do when you see friends,” says Hummel.

Hummel admits that the two did show up at Legends Bar in Reading, Pa., recently, but says a published photo of her driving Gosselin’s car has been misinterpreted. ”He just got this new car and I wanted to drive it. I’m into cars,” she says. ”We all have guy and girl friends. Because of who he is, it gets portrayed the wrong way, and it’s unfair to him and his family.”

She also adamantly denies that Gosselin called her ”babe” while heading to his car. ”He did not by any means call me ’babe,’ ” she says. ”Nobody calls me babe. That made me laugh.”

What she doesn’t find funny, though, is being linked to a married man. ”He’s a very nice guy, don’t get me wrong. But he’s married with eight children,” says Hummel, who is single. She adds that Gosselin ”has a great family life. I would never ever think to pursue anything.”

After reports broke last week that Gosselin had been spotted out late at night with a woman who is not his wife, he released a statement saying he’d shown ”poor judgment.”

”My family is the most important thing in my life and it kills me that these allegations have hurt them,” he added.

  • Idol David Cook’s Brother Dies of Cancer
    The Rumor Mill on mybuzzfoto.com
After battling cancer for more than a decade, David Cook’s brother, Adam, died Saturday, the American Idol winner announced Sunday morning before the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C.

”I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now,” Cook, 26, told the crowd at the benefit for brain cancer research (see video here). Cook was both serving as grand marshal and running with a team that raised $98,000.

Cook’s brother, Adam, 36, had battled the disease throughout Cook’s American Idol competition, and had the chance to see his younger sibling perform in April 2008 on the famous stage. At the time, Adam, a married father and lawyer in Terre Haute, Ind., was undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

”I’m not going to lie to you. He still has a tough road ahead of him,” Adam’s longtime friend Darrick Scott had told PEOPLE. ”But this trip to Los Angeles has put a whole new pep in his step.”

The Idol judges had even noted that having Adam in the front row may have given David the inspiration needed to win.

In March this year, the Idol champ canceled two shows on his current tour ”to deal with personal family matters.” His rep had told PEOPLE that Cook had recently been spending time with his brother.

For Sunday’s race, the singer flew into the capitol after a performance Saturday night at Sun Fest in Palm Beach, Fla., where he had spent most of the day hanging out. His plan was to take a 3 a.m. flight.

”I don’t run normally, but it seems a small sacrifice compared to what those who have fought cancer have endured,” Cook earlier had told PEOPLE. ”And the fact that my fans have rallied to raise so much in donations is the biggest compliment.”

At the early-morning benefit, he said, ”I lost one today,” addressing all the runners, supporters and organizers, ”but I gained 9,000 [friends] and I will be here every year that they will have me.”

  • New Career Path? ScarJo, Oh Helm No
     The Rumor Mill on mybuzzfoto.com
In Hollywood, everybody and their pool boy wants to direct. So it’s no surprise that Scarlett Johansson has the itch to get behind the lens. Especially since she’s been hanging around with Woody Allen.

But apparently talent doesn’t transfer by osmosis, because Johansson has been bounced from her directorial debut, a segment of the multidirector movie New York, I Love You (which does include sections by Natalie Portman and Bret Ratner). But Johansson’s segment starring Kevin Bacon reportedly ”was really bad, so it was cut.”

At least that’s what one insider told the New York Post’s Page Six, who also deemed it ”unwatchable.”

But the film’s producer, Emmanuel Benbihy, told the gossip column that gonging Johanson’s segment was something more like creative differences. He said that in a group project conceived as a series of intertwined love stories, Johansson’s story ”did not specifically involve an interpersonal relationship, and it was conceptualized to be filmed in black and white—both of which were extreme departures from the other films.”

OK, so she’s not a wiz at following directions. But on the positive tip, he added, ”Scarlett presented me with an extremely compelling, albeit unconventional, narrative that appeared as though it would not necessarily conform to the overall approach of the entire collective.”

ScarJo’s segment will be available on the DVD. But maybe going direct to DVD wasn’t what Johansson imagined for her directorial debut. Ah well, there’s always blowing your nose for worthy causes if this directing thing doesn’t work out.
